Hi, I’m Daniel Gillespie. I’m a web developer in Perth, Western Australia who brings a diverse professional background to my work. My experience spans from financial services to biotechnology, where I’ve developed strong skills in team leadership and client service. This varied background gives me a unique perspective on problem-solving and user needs – whether I’m building responsive websites or collaborating on digital solutions.
My experience working directly with people across different industries helps me create more intuitive and user-friendly web experiences. I made the switch to web development because I saw an opportunity to combine my analytical mindset, my people-centric approach to problem solving, and my interest in design.
When I’m not coding, I enjoy diving into genealogical research, piecing together historical records and family stories – another form of problem-solving that requires attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Skills
As a web developer, I bring a diverse set of technical skills to craft responsive, user-friendly, and efficient digital experiences. My expertise spans front-end and back-end development, allowing me to deliver end-to-end solutions tailored to client needs.
On the front-end, I excel in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using frameworks like Bootstrap and Tailwind CSS to build visually engaging and interactive websites. I have a strong grasp of modern styling practices, including SASS (SCSS), which ensures clean and maintainable code. My proficiency in design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Figma enables seamless collaboration with designers and ensures pixel-perfect implementation.
For back-end development, I am skilled in PHP, coupled with experience managing databases using MySQL and lightweight solutions such as SQLite. I also have experience Laravel and Python.
Version control is an essential part of my workflow, and I use Git to manage codebases effectively, ensuring smooth collaboration across projects. I am also adept at working with phpMyAdmin for database administration and utilising XML for structured data management and integrations.
In content management, I specialise in WordPress development, creating custom themes which empower clients to manage their content easily. With tools like React and Next.js, I build dynamic, high-performance web applications tailored to modern user expectations.
Combining technical expertise with creativity, I deliver solutions that balance functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Education
I have undertaken studies in Web Development at North Metropolitan TAFE. In 2023 I undertook the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Web Development). The following year in 2024 I continued my studies by completing the Diploma of Information Technology (Front End Web Development). At the same time I started the Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development).
Upon graduating from the Diploma of Information Technology (Front End Web Development) I was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by North Metropolitan TAFE for “continued and outstanding excellence”.
In 2025 I will be completing the Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development) as well as undertaking the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming) in order to expand my understanding of computer programming.
Interests
I’m passionate about creating digital experiences that seamlessly blend form and function. My focus lies at the intersection of responsive design and accessibility, ensuring websites not only adapt flawlessly across devices but remain inclusive and usable for everyone.
I bring a strong UX design perspective to every project, crafting intuitive user journeys that feel natural and effortless. I’m also drawn to graphic design and interested in exploring how visual elements can enhance the overall user experience while maintaining accessibility standards.
